THE ALLIANCE Hundreds of brand new biblically-centered churches, ethnically and denominationally diverse, all planted in the next decade? The Redeemer Church Planting Center and Concerts of Prayer Greater New York (COPGNY), along with the churches of Greater New York have forged The Church Planting Alliance, a partnership designed to birth these hundreds and more. COPGNY has been active for more than 15 years building a multi-ethnic, interdenominational network of more than 2000 churches who pray and collaborate together. In eight years COPGNY has hosted five urban consulations training more than 3000 leaders from 50 cities. The Alliance with provide training opportunities for potential church planters, active church planters, and church "parents". Training includes assessment and year-round coaching. It will also provide opportunities to network with other church planters from around Greater New York in quarterly Church Planting Alliance meetings, and modest funding for training and initial start-up costs. Regular communication to and from the Alliance is published in a regular e-newsletter. Alliance members, in turn, agree to plant a new church within three years if they have not already done so, and provide quarterly reports on the status of their church planting process. Planters will also be attending quarterly training meetings including the COPGNY PastorŐs Prayer Summit in January. An annual church planting retreats is also provide in the fall of each year. Greater New York will remain one of the ten largest metropolitan regions on the globe for at least another 50 years. It is connected to all other regions around the world like no other city on earth because of its economic, political, and media influence. Every two months, eight million people (a brand new Bangkok) move into the worldŐs cities, and New York City influences those cities like no other. It is consistent with New Testament missiology to plant churches in Greater New York just as Paul only traveled to large Asian and European cities. Long Island has two of the least evangelized counties in America. Bergen County, New Jersey has the population density of Japan, New York City is home to hundreds of thousands of Buddhists, Muslims, and atheists.
