A MOVER OF MOVEMENTS A church planting movement is a Spirit-directed activity which naturally builds, renews and expands the body of Christ in a given city/region through the recovery and application of the Gospel. The movement produces hundreds of new believers, scores of leaders and dozens of new churches that bring spiritual, social, and cultural change to the city and surrounding region. The Redeemer Church Planting Center (RCPC goto www.redeemer2.com/rcpc/index.cfm) coordinates Redeemer's church planting movement effort in New York and other major urban centers of the world. The Center also encourages many other churches in Greater New York to saturate the city with gospel-centered new churches, lending expertise and support to other churches and networks of urban congregations. Expertise and support takes a variety of forms. In future issues, The Movement will be taking a look at the ways Redeemer supports the following components in New York City and around the world, and bring you reports on sister congregations. 1. RESEARCH Through the cooperation of other agencies, mission groups and churches the Center will conduct both demographics and ethnographics in order to determine where to plant churches and what approach to use. 2. BUILDING DIFFERENT MODELS Through research and creative pioneering efforts, the Center will build different models of church planting that are contextualized to different groups and areas. 3. ASSESSMENT "Assessment" refers to the process by which prospective leaders are evaluated on skills and gifts for church planting in various kinds of urban settings. 4. SUPERVISION This includes helping a church design a model and strategy for ministry that fits the community as well as on-going support and accountability. 5. TRAINING This consists of both pre-service and in-service instruction and mentoring. 6. FUNDING A budget will be developed for each project and the Center will assist in acquiring the finances to develop the new church. |
